cruel summer
wasn’t summer supposed to mean vacation?
fun in the sun with friends and family?
being semi-carefree and having a crappy part-time job?
apparently for me it means keeping my fingers crossed that i have enough gas in my car to last me the week, praying that my engine doesn’t over heat, and hope that by some miracle i will magically have money appear into my bank account so i can buy more paper and supplies for my classes, because the crappy economy means i can’t even get a job at a grocery store.
the state of our economy really worries me more and more. not just with the awful gas prices and rising prices of grocery items, but everything else that most of us seem to forget about… our future as artists.
sure when i started school 3 years ago, things seemed fine and dandy and the art world was the way to go. but now that millions of people have already begun to downgrade their comfortable living style in attempts to save money, who’s to say anyone wants to even buy art anymore? let alone pay an arm and a leg for it. since the cost of an american dollar has pretty much become next to worthless, in order to make some sort of a profit off the things we sell [obviously this is more directed towards those of us in the fine art community] the price must go up. but if there’s no demand, then the supply is less, and the price is less, and we’ll have to move out of the cardboard box we’ll already be living in and find some place smaller and cheaper. right?
or maybe this is just what the regular sleep deprived semi work-aholic SCAD student is like when left out in the Atlanta summer heat for too long…
