Winter Break!!

Well,

not just I wanted to post my first blog post ever but also I wanted to confess that I feel as if I have died and went to paradise! That is how winter break is feeling this far – at least for me! I remember now what it feels like to sleep in until very late and to have a good unstressed morning strech!

Anyways, I’m excited to have more time for the radio and do more fun stuff with my show! Remember, Wednesday nights at 10:30pm.

have a good Thanksgiving everyone!

What Winter Sounds Like To Me

So like every music snob/dork I belong to this “mix tape club.” We haven’t made one in awhile, but this time we had essentially a pick your own theme. I picked Winter, because I’ve been wanting to make this type of mix for awhile.

I’m kind of weird and have certain albums that I put away during Spring and Summer, only to have them glorify my eardrums in the Winter. But they’re also some of my favorite albums or songs of all time. And since Winter is my favorite season, I kind of spoil myself with musical goodness.

So after a few days of picking and choosing and sequencing and cutting, I finally finished my mix called, What Winter Sounds Like To Me. I really picked the songs that best fit the feeling of Winter; whether they be sounds of Winter, warmth and love, or just simply reminiscent of something in my life that happened during the Winter, and my brain cannot escape those thoughts when listening to that particular song.

To me, Winter is the season of love. It’s also the prime season for relaxing and going on long drives. It’s the time when I’m not worried about working, or doing school work, or being forced to be around people I can’t stand. It’s my time of year to just relax, do things at my own pace, and let all my emoness out. Which explains all the slower songs. But I definitely had to give up a few tracks to get them onto an audio CD..

Here’s the playlist. Maybe we have similar Winter songs. Discuss.

Moenie And Kitchi

Every once-in-a-while a band will put out an album that I cannot stop listening to and this goes for Moenie and Kitchi, Gregory + The Hawk’s newest album.  When this showed up in the studio I was very excited and since i’ve put it on my computer I have been listening to it ever since. Her Folk influence makes you want to sit around a camp fire and the subtle use of other more tinkering instrumentals gives you the sense of warmth that other bands can only hint at. This album is perfect for this unusually cold fall(?) here.  Not to mention, her voice has stolen a peice of my heart.
