Playlist for the Fuzz Factory with Brett Callero – 6/24/10

Back in the saddle again on a Hotlanta summer night.  The days of 90-plus degree weather continue?  What happened to Spring anyhow?  Well, well, well, I continued to do my part to send some cool heat your way.  In fact, I think the special feature* of Southern Funk was highly appropriate

So here it is…the rockin’ playlist.  By the way, the Fuzz Factory was extended by 30 minutes – just because.  Look for more extended shows in the coming weeks.

Playlist for the Fuzz Factory with Brett Callero 6/17/10

OK man – this was concert week for me.  The Melvins at the 40 Watt in Athens on Monday and Concrete Blonde at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta.  Probably gonna see more concerts soon.  It’s a rock and roll summer.

The Melvins concert was a hot sweaty mess. Seriously, it was 95 degrees outside and at least that hot inside. The 40 Watt needs some damn ceiling fans! The show was a 70 minute assault on your eyes and ears. Normally, I’d like a longer show. However the extreme heat combined with the all-out intensity of the music had me completely spent and almost relieved it was over. The Melvins were wearing absurd clothing reminiscent of 1950’s science-fiction. Highly enjoyable.

The Concrete Blonde concert was a little more tame but excellent still.  I was situated near the front. Johnette Napilotano, lead singer, bass player and songwriter for Concrete Blonde looked and sounded great.  She is still my favorite vocalist in Rock & Roll. I am still crushing on her.  It doesn’t hurt that I’ve always had a female bass player fetish too.

Concrete Blonde were the perfect choice to be the special feature* for this week.  I didn’t plan on dedicating the entire second hour of the show to this feature, but that’s what ended up happening.  I guess I couldn’t make up my mind which songs to play, so I played as many good ones as I could in an hour.

So here it is…the rockin’ playlist.

Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks (my hometown hockey team) for winning the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961.  As a tribute to them, I played their theme song, Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis.  Glad to know my city actually has a Fuzz Factory song as their theme song and not some silly Jock Jam.

This week was also about air.  The Fuzz Factory experienced a little technical difficulties at first.  Dead air does not rock.  Thankfully we were finally back on the air.  Then we were over and under the air and hopefully – in you ear!

The air outside is starting to get hot and heavy.  Perfect for a 60 minute special feature* on the Melvins.  Next week, I will have a full report on the Melvins concert at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA.  By the way – Melvins for 60 minutes straight is perhaps the most intense hour of music you’ll ever hear.

Don’t forget to tune into the Fuzz Factory – every Thursday night from 8-10pm.
